Mission Context:

Naval Air Station Fallon (NAS Fallon) is the Navy’s premier advanced tactical aviation training center and home to the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN). It is where aircrews prepare for the most demanding combat scenarios, integrating fighters, strike aircraft, ISR platforms, and joint forces to train for high-end conflict. Flight operations at Fallon must be flawless. Every sortie, system check, and recovery directly supports combat training that prepares aircrew to survive and win in contested airspace. Chugach personnel operate the airfield systems that make this mission possible. Mission Environment TOPGUN and Carrier Air Wing training demand absolute reliability from airfield navigation, arresting gear, ground support equipment, and runway operations. Any system failure can halt training, disrupt tightly choreographed exercises, or place aircraft and aircrew at risk. The mission requires skilled technicians who can maintain and operate hundreds of complex aviation systems daily, respond immediately to emergencies, and perform in all weather conditions – without delays caused by subcontracting or pass-through support.

Chugach Support

Under the BOSC contract, Chugach performs nearly all services with in-house personnel, using only one subcontractor for pest control. This direct-execution model provides immediate response, clear accountability, and uninterrupted support for TOPGUN and fleet training operations. Chugach delivers integrated airfield and aviation services that include operation and maintenance of air traffic control and navigation aids; daily inspections of radar, precision approach, weather, and communications systems; full operation and reset of aircraft emergency arresting gear; transient line services for tactical and transport aircraft; passenger and cargo handling for deploying squadrons; maintenance and training for aviation ground support equipment; and all-weather runway and pavement clearance. These services ensure continuous sortie generation, safe recoveries, and reliable training conditions at the Navy’s premier advanced tactical aviation training center.

Execution:

Chugach personnel perform daily inspections, preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, and emergency response across airfield systems and facilities. Teams are embedded on base and work directly with airfield operations and tenant commands to ensure training schedules remain uninterrupted. This continuous, hands-on presence allows issues to be resolved immediately – before they affect sorties, safety, or mission outcomes.

Results and Operational Impact

Continuous availability of air navigation and landing systems supporting TOPGUN and fleet training

Immediate emergency response for aircraft arrestments and airfield incidents

Uninterrupted sortie generation during high-tempo, complex training evolutions

Reliable runway availability in all weather conditions

Safe and efficient movement of aircrew, aircraft, and equipment

These outcomes directly support the Navy’s highest-end aviation training and combat readiness.

Mission Value:

NAS Fallon is where naval aviators learn to fight and win. Chugach is part of that mission – operating the systems that keep aircraft flying, training on schedule, and aircrew safe.
